For the past few weeks, Rain City’s office has become a place of cheers and tears, and it’s all because of one organization.

Rain City Capital is proud to announce our $100 Mission partnership with The Austen Everett Foundation.

In 2008, nationally ranked soccer goalie Austen Everett was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The news was devastating, but Austen didn’t face it lying down. After receiving chemotherapy, she kept playing and went on to form the Austen Everett Foundation.

The Austen Everett Foundation holds events where children with cancer are made the honorary team captain of a professional or collegiate sports team, such as the Seattle Seahawks, University of Washington Huskies, or Portland Trailblazers. They’re given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the support that comes from professional or collegiate athletics, creating an inspiring memory they carry with them through treatment.

Honorary team captains can be part of the team in many different ways: they might receive a personalized team jersey, attend coaches’ pre-game talks, walk on the field or court with the team, or watch warmups from the players’ bench. They also can have their name featured on the jumbotron, call the captains’ coin-toss, and receive autographed team gear and an event photo recap.

Austen lost her fight to cancer in 2012 but her legacy lives on. With Rain City’s donation of $25,600, fifty-one more children now have teams fighting cancer alongside them.

Since partnering with Rain City, the Austen Everett Foundation has regularly sent us photos of each child we’ve helped sponsor. When you see the faces of these children when they become part of the team, the joy in their eyes, you’re seeing something special. You’re seeing hope—and a whole team of gifted athletes who are saying, “You’re not alone—we’re here to fight with you.” It’s an incredible honor to be part of it.
